Pressing Your Bets in Craps
To press a bet is to put some or all of its win back on it, so the bet grows while you keep the rest. Here's what a full, half and power press mean, the dollar amounts on the 6 and 8, the patterns players use, and a free table where you can practice it.

The ways to take a win
Say $12 on the 6 wins $14. Place bets on the 6 and 8 go up in $6 steps, so:
| Call | What happens | Bet after | You keep |
|---|---|---|---|
| Same bet (collect) | Take the whole win | $12 | $14 |
| Half press | About half the win goes on the bet | $18 | $8 |
| Full press | The bet doubles | $24 | $2 |
| Power press | The win plus some of your own chips go on the bet | $30 | −$4 |
"You keep" is what comes back to your rack from that hit; a power press adds $4 of your own to reach $30. Pressing doesn't change the house edge of the bet: Place 6 and 8 keep 1.52% at any size.
Pressing patterns players use
- Collect, then press. Take the first hit on each number, press after that.
- Collect, press, collect, press. Alternate on each hit.
- Press twice, then same bet. Press the first two or three hits, then collect from then on.
- Press to a level. Press until the bet reaches a set amount, then collect.
- Regress then press. Come down after the first hit (a regression), then press later hits.
How the practice table presses
- $12 each on the 6 and 8 once a point is set (at the $5 chip).
- The first hit on a number is collected.
- Each hit after that is half-pressed: half the win, in whole $6 steps and at least $6, goes back on the number; the rest is kept.
- A seven-out ends it; the next shooter starts again at $12 each.
You can also press by hand with the table's PRESS button, which adds one chip to each of your numbers, rounded so it still pays exactly.
In crapless craps, and on a bubble machine
Pressing works the same in crapless craps and on a bubble craps machine: you raise a bet on its number after a win. Each number has its own step, so it keeps paying exactly: $6 on the 6 and 8, $5 on the 5, 9, 4 and 10.
How to practice it here
- Tap the button below, or at the table tap the round ♟ button at the top right and pick Press the 6 and 8.
- Roll. The table places the 6 and 8, collects the first hit on each, half-presses every hit after that, and starts over after a seven-out.
- The strip under the table shows the rolls, the shooters and the strategy's running total, kept apart from any bets of your own.
- Tap Turn off any time and carry on by hand; the bets stay on the table as yours.
